Three UK slashes data costs in New Zealand for customers travelling to the Rugby World Cup 2011.
September 6th 2011: Three has slashed the cost of data roaming for rugby fans travelling to the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
The mobile operator is able to offer a discount of nearly 80% on New Zealand roaming costs between September 9th and October 31st , helping smartphone, dongle and tablet users to reduce their bills during the tournament.
The roaming deal is available as standard to all Three’s customers and at no extra cost. So, supporters will have a more affordable way to search for the latest scores or news, or upload pictures of fans supporting England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland to their Facebook page, all at a cheaper rate.
The promotion means Three’s data roaming prices in New Zealand are now the equivalent to the price customers are charged while using data in European countries – a drop from £6 per MB to £1.28 per MB – making the deal considerably cheaper than the nearest rival’s standard data rate*.
It is the cheapest standard rate data roaming charge for UK mobile data customers travelling to New Zealand for the tournament.
Three’s Marketing Director, Thomas Malleschitz, said: “Smartphones have revolutionised how we all keep in touch with our friends and family, the latest news, sports results, and much, much more.
“But the cost of roaming abroad can be ferociously high, and that leaves people with the fear of bill shock.
“So despite being on the other side of the world, by getting the data price for roaming in New Zealand down to the same rate as roaming in Europe, Three’s customers can continue to stay connected and share their experience of rugby’s biggest tournament.”
