Day in the Life
As part of our new ‘Day in the life’ series, we’re interviewing employees of all levels, across all areas of the business to learn a bit more about them and how we all work together here at Three.
Today we’re getting to know Gal Oppenheimer
Vital stats:
Job title: Retail store manager
Function: Retail
Tenure: 7.5 years
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am originally from Jerusalem Israel and have been in the UK since 2007. I live with my partner Jayne in Bromsgrove (Just south of Birmingham) with our cat Leo. I have a 13-year-old daughter of my own named Roni and a 20-year-old Stepdaughter named Olivia. I have been told that I am also a grandad to Olivia’s 1 year old Springer called Luna.
In a nutshell, describe your role and how you support our business objectives
I am the retail store manager of our store in Kidderminster which is just west of Birmingham. I have been the store manager here for 6.5 years. I am also the employee forum Rep for area 12, which is part of the South Region. I joined Three with food retail management experience but no telecommunications retail experience. On my 2nd day I was asked to get a 5S from the stock room and came back with a S5.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
A typical day in my role would start off with admin work, reviewing my team and stores performance, briefing my team ahead of the day’s trade and then leading my shop floor so we provide exceptional customer experiences, achieve our commercial goals and make sure we are compliant (GDPR exc) while trading. My focus is to support and develop my team to become the best. I do that by leading by example and coaching and supporting them when needed.
What are the big things in the world of retail right now?
Retail now is all about contract voice and Mobile Broadband. We are the main channel for Three to grow and attract more customers to our base. We are the face of the company, and our customer service represents our brand.
We are eagerly awaiting 3vision to happen and for more areas to be covered by our 5G signal. Kidderminster has had 5G in some parts of the town and we are starting to see customers coming in for Home Broadband with us which is amazing.
The first quarter of 2022 will hopefully see the first signs of 3vision starting to join our channel’s ways of working. With some of our systems being the same since Three retail launched in 2003, 3vision brings a new, exciting and brighter future for Three in general and for Three retail in particular. The first quarter in retail is usually a quieter one due to the weather but looking forward to see what 2022 will be like.
How have you supported your personal wellbeing during the past 18 months?
The last 18 months have been tough on everyone. We have seen our customers being so happy that we are open, happy to engage with us in retail and we in return have been happy to see them back in our stores. I am a very “people person” so being back in store has been the best thing for my wellbeing along with support from my family and friends.
Give us a fun fact…
The fun fact about me is that I am 6’9″ tall. Most of the regular customers in my store that can’t remember my name just call me “the tall guy”.
