Three UK ends the battle of the remote with a new TV bundle this summer

  • A quarter of Brits admit what to watch on TV is the biggest source of family squabbles
  • Almost two-thirds of Brits will be tuning into the sport, whilst only a quarter will be ‘cracking on’ with Love Island
  • Three launches its ‘TV Peace Treaty’ campaign, with its Broadband & TV bundle

Friday 9th July:  It might be coming home for England, but for reality TV fans a much-needed summer of love is ‘their type on paper’. New research out today, commissioned by Three, reveals that the battle of the TV remote is draining the household battery as a quarter (26%) of the UK admit to regularly bickering over what to watch on TV.

Research from Three found that 60% are gearing up for a jam-packed calendar of sports throughout July, whilst only 24% are most looking forward to tuning in to Love Island. Mums seem to have the upper hand when it comes to being in command of the remote with 25% getting the casting vote on what to watch, but Dads are resistant, it seems, with 44% admitting that the majority of arguments over the TV occur between partners.

Second-screening has presented a lifeline for many, with 59% now using their laptops, tablets and phones to watch TV. While the growth of subscription streaming platforms has impacted live TV viewing, a large majority of people confess to still watching live broadcast, notably the audiences of major sporting fixtures, which ironically is the genre that causes the most disputes (40%). In answer to this, Three has launched a new bundle to help keep the peace in more homes this summer.

Three’s new Home Broadband and TV bundle might just be the answer to such household disputes. Customers can purchase Three’s 5G Home Broadband with a new 43” 4K TV (worth £499) or 4G Home Broadband with a 32” HD TV (worth £249) so that the whole family can enjoy their favourite shows, and prevent it becoming a source of disagreement over the summer months.

Working with former footballer and football manager Harry Redknapp, the mobile network has launched the ‘TV Peace Treaty’ campaign – exploring the TV shows causing the most amount of remote-control rage in households across the UK, and how Three’s Home Broadband and TV bundle can help.

Harry Redknapp, former football manager, player and King of the Jungle, said: “The return of sports tournaments has seen me glued to the box this year; however, not all my family share the same enthusiasm for the beautiful game. What to watch is a huge source of debate in our household and so I’m thrilled to be working with Three to offer a broadband and TV bundle for more families like mine.”

Aislinn O’Connor, Director of Marketing for UK and Ireland at Three, said: “Our research reflects the excitement of the nation this summer. Sport is back in a big way and the appetite from fans has never been stronger. But there are still plenty of people who’d rather get stuck into a good drama or reality show, so we hope our home broadband and TV offer can bring a greater sense of harmony at home.”

To celebrate the ‘TV Peace Treaty’, Three and Harry have joined forces to giveaway a new TV to three lucky prize winners – visit Three’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages for more information.
