Three rewards latest Community Fund beneficiaries
We’re delighted to announce the latest winners of the Community Fund! These grants, totalling £5,000, were recently awarded to four incredible charitable organisations, all nominated by our people.
A huge congratulations to our Q1 winners!
£2,000 award – PALS West Berkshire
For over 20 years, PALS has been committed to giving young people with physical disabilities opportunities to gain in confidence and self-esteem, helping them to achieve their full potential through providing leisure and recreational activities that would otherwise be unavailable to them.
Brett Rogers, Head of RAN & Special Coverage Solutions, nominated the charity who has supported his daughter for almost 15 years. “PALS has given her the chance make friends and enjoy activities independently outside of school and without us. The activities also afford myself and my wife short periods of respite to go for a walk or coffee. They are an amazing charity with a large group of children and parents from Reading, Newbury and surrounding areas benefitting from the service they provide.”
What does this mean for the charity?
“We would like to say a big thank you for the amazing donation of £2,000. Without the kindness and support of individuals and companies like yourselves, we would not be able to do the important work that we do. This very generous donation will help to support our summer programme where we will be off sailing, zip wiring, abseiling as well as trips to an alpaca farm and Reading Festival. None of this would be possible without your support, thank you once again!” Helen at PALS
£2,000 award – Wokingham Day Nursery
Established in 1974, Wokingham Day Nursery provides childcare in a home-from-home, caring and warm environment. It is managed by an enthusiastic committee of parents who actively fund-raise on behalf of the nursery. As a non-profit making organisation all fees are invested back into the care of the children, which enables them to keep their fees affordable and maintain a good balance between high quality and good value.
In a first, cross-function nomination, Jess Goodall (People Propositions), Katie Gilder (Brand Activation) and Sophie Lovett (Business), came together to put forward the charity. Jess and Katie are on the committee.
What does this mean for the charity?
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Three for their generous donation of £2,000 which has enormously boosted our fundraising efforts to replace our current perimeter fence. Also, a massive thank you to Jess, Katie and Sophie for nominating Wokingham Day Nursery to be part of Three’s UK Community Fund.
The new, higher fencing will greatly enhance the safety and security of the children in our care, while also offering peace of mind to our parents. The current fence is now deemed too low to provide adequate protection, and your contribution is helping us create a safer environment for everyone.
We are deeply grateful for your support in making this important improvement possible. With much appreciation from everyone at WDN.”
£500 award – Moggies Cat Rescue
Moggies Cat Rescue helps rescue and rehome cats whose families have fallen on hard times and can no longer care for them. This includes animals of people who are terminally ill, long-term sick, financially disadvantaged or cats that have simply been abandoned. They are also looking to set up a space for cats whose families are escaping domestic abuse but need temporary housing for their animals when they go into sheltered accommodation. Not wanting to leave their pets behind, is one of the main reasons people don’t flee a domestic abuse situation.
Nicola Scarf in our People Development team is the Chair of Trustees at the charity.
What does this mean for the charity?
“We are a small, volunteer-run, cat rescue based in Aberdare, South Wales. Since August 2024, we have helped hundreds of cats. They have been rescued, loved and in most cases, rehomed. But costs are high, with vet bills ranging from £3-6,000 per month. The support of our Moggies Community and the donation received from Three has allowed us to fully clear an outstanding vet bill for one cat (Nigel) who was hit by a car. We simply couldn’t help wonderful cats like Nigel without that financial support. Our mission is to grow and to help more and more cats and kittens in need.”
£500 award – Windsor Horse Rangers
Windsor Horse Rangers is a volunteer-led children’s educational charity which has been running for over fifty years. Their mission is to give young people the hands-on skills to care for, handle, ride and connect with horses in a supportive, nurturing and fun environment. Through building relationships with horses and each other, Rangers develop as individuals, build self-confidence and resilience, learn communication and team-building skills, have fun and make new friends. Being a Horse Ranger promotes a life-long love and respect for horses and contributes to the wider aim of every horse being treated with respect and compassion.
Around 10% of the children who attend have autism, ADHD or anxiety, and they benefit hugely from the activities. There has been improvements in social skills, communication and wellbeing, in addition to reductions in anxiety and stress.
Many Rangers have gone on to complete equine-related degrees at university and gain a direction in life which they did not have before joining.
James Holley in Technology volunteers for, and nominated, Windsor Horse Rangers.
What does this mean for the charity?
“Thank you for your support. The monthly donations which the children pay only just cover our running costs. We have several projects coming up which we need funds for – like field drainage and a new tractor – so your donation will be put to very good use.”
How to apply
If you’re a charitable organisation or group that would like to be considered for a Community Fund donation, you will need to be nominated by a current Three UK employee.
Congratulations to all winners and thank you to all our applicants.
