Three customer usage explodes to 6.4GB a month

Three leads the market on data and carries more data traffic than any other UK network driven by increasing use of streaming services like YouTube and Netflix. This performance saw Three rated No. 1 for mobile internet by consumers surveyed by YouGov.

Three also continued to lead the industry on roaming abroad with Three customers saving £2.4 billion in 2016 with Feel At Home which now offers customers roaming at no extra cost in 42 destinations. Roaming in Feel At Home countries outside of the EU accounted for 90% of these savings. Feel At Home remains one of our most popular customer benefits and we are committed to retaining it in the EU and regardless of Brexit negotiations.

In December 2016 indoor coverage stood at 95%, up from 78% in December 2011. Three continued to do more to keep customers connected and improve indoor coverage with the ongoing rollout of low frequency spectrum and Voice over LTE technology and, in Q1 2017, the introduction of seamless Wi-Fi calling for Apple devices and some Android devices.

Key performance indicators for 2016 include:

• EBIT grew 8% year-on-year to £496m
• EBITDA less Capex grew 12% year-on-year to £367m
• Average Margin Per User for 2016 was £12.76
• 213,000 net active customer additions in 2016
• Customer net promoter score increases to +20
