Three announces 1100% increase in data usage in five years


 

The combination of an expanded 4G network and an engaged customer base saw average data usage per customer grow to 5GB from 3.3GB at the end of 2014 and 500MB at the end of 2010.

Total data traffic on the network has grown by over 1100% since 2010 and Three carries 42% of the UK’s total data traffic.

Over 1 million customers are now able to make calls in more places following the introduction of 4G Super-Voice (Voice over LTE). This will increase further as the rollout of 4G Super-Voice continues and customers use more VoLTE ready devices.

3 million customers have enjoyed roaming at no extra cost with Feel At Home with average data usage per customer in Feel At Home countries increasing from 1.6GB in 2014 to 3GB in 2015. In total, Three customers have now saved £2.6 billion in roaming charges since the introduction of Feel At Home.

Key financial results:

  • EBIT £461 million
  • EBITDA less CapEx and spectrum £116 million
  • CapEx was £358 million reflecting increased 4G investment
  • Average Margin Per Customer grew by 7% to £12.95
  • Contract net additions stood at 137,000
  • Handset contract churn was 1.3%
