My Life Through The Lens: Elliott Kempton
As part of our new ‘My life through the lens’ series, we’re discovering how our people ‘live their best phone lives’. The new series is all about learning more about how some of the moments saved on our phones have shaped our people and how they contribute to #LifeAtThree.
Today we’re getting to know Elliott Kempton.
Vital Statistics
- Job title: Communications Specialist
- Function: Experience
- Tenure: Altogether it’s 14 years and 3 months (over a couple of different periods)
Tell us about early Elliott, what was he like, what did you see yourself doing?
He was a happy, cheeky chap! Not much changed to be honest, (still rocking the cheesy grin and loud shirts 🤣)
When I was about 5, I really wanted to be a pilot. My Dad used to have these massive over-ear headphones. I used to wear them, sit on a chair, and pretend I was jetting off somewhere.
A couple of years later, (and like most little boys) I wanted to be a footballer. Sadly, that never materialised. We had a very successful village team, the mighty Dersy, winning the league almost every year from Under 8 to Under 14.
How did you get into your role?
I started with Three as a CA in Kings Lynn way back in 2007, I worked through the ranks up to Store Manager.
It was about 2 years ago when I decided I wanted a new challenge. I quite liked the idea of Comms, so I reached out internally to see what I could do to get myself ready, should a role become available. Immediately I began to support the Retail comms team, by offering to create video summaries of the Weekly Briefs and Trading Updates. A vacancy then did arise, and I joined the team in February 2022 and the rest is history 😊 I love being in the team and sharing all my content with Retail.
What do you like to do outside of #LifeAtThree?
I love spending time with my family. My wife and I have three boys (and a dog), so they keep us busy. When I do manage to get some me time, I enjoy watching sport. As I mentioned I have always loved football, and I also enjoy the American version (NFL) and got to see my team when they played at Wembley last year. I also love to get out on the golf course, I just wish I could get to play more often!
Where is your happy place?
I know it sounds cliché, but it is at home. Just being there, spending quality time relaxing indoors with a Netflix series with my wife or getting out and about with the boys and Dug, our mini dachshund. I am very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country. Being close to the coast and Sandringham, you get the best of both seaside and countryside for family days out. We take Dug to a monthly ‘Sausage Walk’, where local dachshund owners all meet and go for a walk together. At the last one we attended, there was nearly 40 dogs there. I am also always taking photos of the Norfolk sunsets, as the sky just seems to go on for forever.
If you had one photo to sum up how you’ve lived your best phone life, what would it be and why?
Being on holiday, capturing memories of my beautiful family, sharing them with people back home. Having that ability to be connected with the ones you love even when you are miles away is something which I think I take for granted.
