MakeTheAirFair Receives Enormous Public Support

More than 178,938 people have demonstrated their support for the MakeTheAirFair campaign as Ofcom’s two month public consultation has drawn to a close. The campaign encourages Ofcom to safeguard the future of the UK mobile market and impose a 30% cap in the next mobile spectrum auction.

MakeTheAirFair, led by Three UK with TalkTalk, CityFibre, Federation of Communication Services, Gamma and Relish, launched at the end of November 2016. It calls on Ofcom to ensure that all mobile consumers, regardless of their network provider, benefit from more choice, improved performance, faster speeds and lower prices.

The campaign will continue to encourage consumers to contact their elected representatives to ensure that Ofcom promotes an outcome that supports fair competition and the associated consumer benefits.

Dave Dyson, CEO at Three UK, said: “The high response rate to the campaign proves the severity of the situation.  Both the UK Government and consumers have expressed concerns over the state of the UK mobile market and a further deterioration of the current spectrum imbalance will only make matters worse.

“The UK needs world class digital infrastructure but right now it’s bottom of the class.  A fairer allocation of spectrum is the only measure that will ensure a sustainable model for competition and investment that will deliver innovation, value and choice.”
